Chris Jones not playing for Chiefs without long-term deal
Kansas City Chiefs franchise-tagged defensive tackle Chris Jones said he won't play if he and the Chiefs don't agree on a long-term contract before the July 15 deadline.
Jones is seeking $20 million-plus per year over multiple seasons but the Chiefs reportedly don't believe he's worth that price. Turning 26 on Friday, Jones is currently scheduled to make $16.3 million under the franchise tag in 2020. He's recorded 24.5 sacks and 49 quarterback hits in 29 games over the past two seasons. Last year, Jones graded as Pro Football Focus' fifth-best interior defender out of 57 players at the position with at least 500 snaps.
numberFire's models project Jones for 13.6 sacks, 48.6 tackles, 3.7 pass deflections, and 4.3 forced fumbles this season. The Chiefs D/ST is 8th in our preseason fantasy rankings.
