Titans, Derrick Henry open to signing new deal before July 15th deadline
The Tennessee Titans are open to the idea of signing running back Derrick Henry to a new deal prior to the July 15th deadline.
Henry is currently scheduled to play on the franchise tag this season, worth $10.3 million. He already signed the tag, which means there is no threat of a hold out if a long term deal doesn't get done before the deadline. There is no extension "on the verge" of happening, but there is a possibility that talks accelerate as the two sides look to agree to a deal that keeps Henry in Tennessee for the long term. Henry earned Pro Football Focus' 13th highest rushing grade last season and finished with the fourth-highest elusive rating in the league (min 152 attempts).
numberFire's models project Henry to lead the NFL in carries (293.2), rushing yards (1,379.1), and rushing touchdowns (12.8) this season. They also project him for 26.1 receptions on 34.3 targets for 225.2 yards and 1.2 receiving touchdowns. He is the RB5 in our preseason rankings.
