David Montgomery carted from Bears' practice with non-contact injury
Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery was carted off the practice field Wednesday with a non-contact injury.
Montgomery cut after taking a handoff and then collapsed to the ground. In the event Montgomery is forced to miss time, Cordarrelle Patterson could see an expanded backfield role and Tarik Cohen may be used more as a rusher. The Bears will likely look to add another back before the season if it's a long-term issue. C.J. Prosise worked out for the team earlier this month and Devonta Freeman is still a free agent. Montgomery tied fellow rookie Josh Jacobs for the 13th-most carries (242) in the league last season, but he averaged the second-fewest yards (3.7) among the 20 backs with at least 200 attempts.
numberFire's models projected Montgomery for 249.9 rush attempts before the injury, 11th-most in our preseason forecast.
