Eagles place Dallas Goedert (ankle) on injured reserve

The Philadelphia Eagles placed tight end Dallas Goedert on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

What It Means:

Goedert reportedly has a chance to return Week 7 against the New York Giants when first eligible. He led the Eagles with 17 targets and 131 yards over the first two games before injuring his ankle during Sunday's tie against the Cincinnati Bengals. Greg Ward wound up finishing with 11 targets and 72 yards, leading the team in both categories. Zach Ertz and Ward should both see more volume with Goedert sidelined. Alshon Jeffery (foot) will now be needed even more in Philadelphia's offense whenever he's cleared to make his season debut. The Eagles added Hakeem Butler to the active roster in a corresponding roster move. They will face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 on Sunday night.

numberFire's models expect Ertz to lead the Eagles with 8.6 targets on Sunday night, followed by Ward with 6.8. Ertz currently leads all tight ends with 226 air yards this season and the Eagles target their tight ends more than any other team in the NFL. The 49ers have only allowed a total of 6.5 FanDuel points to opposing tight ends this season.
