Packers' Jamaal Williams ruled out Thursday night versus 49ers due to close contact
Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams is out for Week 9 against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night after being designated a high-risk close contact to A.J. Dillon (COVID-19).
Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin were both designated as high-risk after Dillon tested positive for the virus. The Packers are reportedly pessimistic about Aaron Jones (calf) being available Thursday, potentially leaving Tyler Ervin and practice squad back Dexter Williams as the team's only healthy backfield options. Ervin has 10 touches this season and Williams recorded 5 carries in four games last year for Green Bay. Either player could wind up with double-digit touches on Thursday night if Jones is ruled out again.
Williams saw at least 22 opportunities and cleared 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the last two games. The 49ers have allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards (523) and second-fewest touchdowns (3) to running backs this season. They have also been the best unit against running backs in terms of FanDuel points (15.7 per game).
