Rapoport: Packers pessimistic about Aaron Jones (calf) Thursday
The Green Bay Packers are pessimistic about running back Aaron Jones (calf) playing Thursday night's Week 9 game against the San Francisco 49ers, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Jones missed the past two games and the Packers want to continue to be cautious. Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon have both been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after Dillon tested positive, leaving the Packers with Tyler Ervin and practice squad running back Dexter Williams as their only healthy backfield options. Ervin has 10 touches this season while Williams recorded 5 carries in four games last year for Green Bay. Either player could wind up with double-digit touches on Thursday night if Jones is ruled out again.
The 49ers have allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards (523) and second-fewest touchdowns (3) to running backs this season. They have also been the best unit against running backs in terms of FanDuel points (15.7 per game). San Francisco ranks 4th against the run in numberFire's advanced team rankings.
