Sam Darnold says shoulder improving entering Jets bye
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold (shoulder) is "feeling better" and hoping to return following the Jets' Week 10 bye, per head coach Adam Gase.
Joe Flacco made his third spot start of the season in Monday night's near upset of the New England Patriots, but the expectation has been that Darnold will return for Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The No. 3 overall pick from the 2018 draft has failed to throw a touchdown pass in three consecutive games and recorded fewer than 130 yards in each of the last two.
Darnold is averaging 11.3 FanDuel points per game (QB37) and he is taking away the second-most Passing Net Expected Points per dropback among the 41 quarterbacks with at least 50 dropbacks this season (Ben DiNucci). He's also not taking many shots downfield with an average depth of target (7.5 yards) that is 12th-lowest in that same group of quarterbacks.
