Leighton Vander Esch (ankle) not expected to play in Cowboys' Week 16 matchup
According to head coach Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (ankle) likely suffered "a couple week injury" in Sunday's contest against the San Francisco 49ers.
Vander Esch's absence is a huge loss for a struggling Cowboys' defense. On 231 run snaps, the 23-year old ranked first among his team in Pro Football Focus' run defense rating with a 60.2 mark. Expect Joe Thomas to play more snaps against Philadelphia's versatile run game.
On 366 snaps this season, Thomas has accounted for 14 stops and 18 opposing receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
