Steelers' tight end Jesse James expects a larger role in 2016
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James expects to take on a bigger role following Heath Miller's retirement.
James didn't see the field until Week 9 this past season and was only targeted 12 times in 10 games including the playoffs. The Steelers have plenty of free agent options at tight end (Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener, Antonio Gates and Ben Watson are available), but James is confident he can pick up where Miller left off. "My development throughout the season never stopped getting better," said James. "I am prepared to go and get back to work soon." James turns 22 in June.
James put together an underwhelming 4.20 Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) on his 11 regular season targets this year, good for a 0.38 Reception NEP per target. This was a small sample size, however, and could therefore swing up with added volume.
