Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) 'has chance' to play Sunday for San Francisco
San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is not practicing Wednesday.
Mitchell made an early exit from Week 2 with a shoulder injury, but he was able to return to the game after Trey Sermon was forced to leave with a concussion. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Mitchell's injury is "a little worse than a stinger," but that the sixth-rounder still "has a chance" to play in Sunday night's game against the Green Bay Packers. Trey Sermon (concussion) was able to practice on a limited basis Wednesday and would likely lead the backfield if he clears protocol and Mitchell is ruled out. Trenton Cannon would be the next man up if Mitchell and Sermon are both sidelined.
The 49ers have earned the second-best team grade for run blocking this season from Pro Football Focus. The Packers run defense is No. 22 in numberFire's advanced team rankings and No. 18 in terms of FanDuel points allowed per game to the running back position.
