Eagles backfield 'creeping closer' to timeshare

The Philadelphia Eagles backfield "is creeping closer to a timeshare and will stay that way unless and until [Miles] Sanders starts busting loose," writes Tim McManus of ESPN.com.

What It Means:

Sanders turned 10 touches into 47 yards in Week 4 while rookie Kenneth Gainwell had one fewer touch but produced 89 yards and scored a touchdown. Gainwell played on a season-high 40.0% of the Eagles' offensive snaps and he seemed to be the preferred pass-catcher out of the backfield. Gainwell drew 8 targets on 17 pass routes and Sanders had 3 targets on 25 routes. The Eagles may move toward more of a 50-50 split in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.

Among the 66 running backs with double-digit carries this season, Gainwell is No. 16 and Sanders is No. 50 in Rushing Net Expected Points per carry. Gainwell ranks second only to Cordarrelle Patterson in targets per routes run by running backs (33%). Gainwell has a $5,700 salary and Sanders has a $5,900 salary on FanDuel in Week 5. The Panthers are allowing the fifth-fewest FanDuel points per game to the running back position.
