Kansas City expecting big things from Steven Nelson

Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Steven Nelson will have a chance to play a significant role in 2016, said Chiefs' general manager John Dorsey.

What It Means:

Dorsey said he expects "big things" from Nelson. A third-round pick last year, Nelson played just 53 snaps on defense as a rookie. "I think he made great strides and I think everybody learns at different paces," Dorsey said. "I’ve seen steady improvement from him as we’ve gone along this season. I expect big things from (him) here in year two." With Sean Smith gone, the Chiefs are looking for a starter opposite Marcus Peters. Phillip Gaines (ACL) will likely be that guy if he is healthy, but Nelson could carve out a role in sub packages.

Kansas City, built on defense, ranked fifth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play last season.
