Patriots lure Terrance Knighton away from Washington

The New England Patriots signed nose tackle Terrance Knighton, formerly of the Washington Redskins, to a one-year deal.

What It Means:

Knighton will earn $4.5 million to be the Patriots' new run stuffer in the middle of their defensive line. The Redskins were also reportedly in the mix but were offering less money, so Knighton will be a Patriot in 2016. After a year of swapping out different nose tackles, Knighton should provide some stability for the middle of the Pats' defensive line, despite going on 30 years-old.

The run-stuffer made 29 tackles and 1.5 sacks a year ago. The Patriots ranked eighth in Adjusted Defensive Rushing Net Expected Points per play in 2015, and Knighton should only help that.
