Dolphins signing Duke Johnson to active roster

The Miami Dolphins are signing running back Duke Johnson to the active roster.

What It Means:

The deal comes after Johnson rushed 22 times for 107 yards and a touchdown, and added a 20-yard reception, in the Dolphins' Week 15 win over the New York Jets. It was only his second appearance of the season, but the impressive performance may have earned Johnson a larger role down the stretch. That said, Myles Gaskin is expected to be more involved after having more time to recover from COVID-19. The Dolphins' backfield will have a tougher draw in Week 16 against a stout New Orleans Saints run defense.

Johnson out-snapped Gaskin 41-26 in Week 15 and out-touched him 23-10. Among the 22 running backs with double-digit carries this week, Johnson has added the third-most Rushing Net Expected Points per carry while Gaskin ranks 15th. In terms of FanDuel points allowed per game to the running back position this season, the Jets are the worst in the league while the Saints rank second-best.
