Cam Newton demoted for Panthers in Week 17
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been demoted from the starter for Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints.
The Panthers gave Newton a chance, but his arm is completely cooked. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Newton will be ready to play, but Sam Darnold will reclaim the starting job for at least Week 17.
Among the 43 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs this season, Cam ranks dead last with negative-0.24 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back. The Saints have the sixth-best pass defense in the league, according to our adjusted metrics.
