Chiefs and Tyreek Hill working on four-year contract extension

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign wide receiver Tyreek Hill to a four-year extension worth up to $85 million.

What It Means:

Alongside tight end Travis Kelce, Hill has helped quarterback Patrick Mahomes create one of the most exciting passing offenses in the league since Mahomes took over the starting quarterback job. Once feared solely for his elite deep speed, Hill's game took another step forward in the short and intermediate areas of the field in 2021 as the Chiefs altered their offense to combat the rise of two-high defenses across the league. As Kelce enters his early 30's, the Chiefs are making a smart call by locking in their top wideout for the next several seasons.

Hill's 2021 season saw the star receiver's Average Depth of Target (ADOT) drop from an average of 13.5 yards over the previous three seasons, down to 10.9 yards this year. But that drop in depth target led to Hill posting a career-high 111 receptions, third in the league behind only Cooper Kupp and Davante Adams. Hill is a legitimate threat at all three levels of the field and should continue to be an elite receiver in 2022 and beyond.
