Falcons send quarterback Matt Ryan to Colts via trade

The Atlanta Falcons have traded quarterback Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2022 third-round pick, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What It Means:

The Colts now have their starting quarterback for the 2022 NFL season. Ryan, who had been with the Falcons since entering the league as the third overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, will now get another chance to compete for a title with a Colts roster that is far more competitive than anything the Falcons had produced in years. The Falcons now finally appear to embracing the rebuild that has seemed on the horizon for them for the past few seasons.

Ryan has missed just three games in his entire career and has been a reliable and productive quarterback for virtually that entire time. The veteran has passed for over 4,000 yards in 10 of his 14 seasons, and should be set up well to repeat that feat again surrounded by the Colts' superior offensive line, a sound running game, and a pass-catching group led by Michael Pittman Jr. Look for the Falcons as a likely landing spot for a rookie quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft.
