Bills take a fourth-round flyer on Cardale Jones
The Buffalo Bills selected Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones with the 139th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
After a dominant 2014 playoff run for the Buckeyes, Jones returned to school to share time with J.T. Barrett. Although Jones was never a full-time college starter, he has a chance to become a better NFL player with a Culpepperian blend of size, athleticism, and arm strength. His deficiencies show up through inexperience-based fundamental flaws after attempting just 270 college passes. Jones' ceiling is high, but he could also flame out quickly. He's a classic boom-bust prospect.
Jones played in 23 games at Ohio State, going 11-0 as a starter and finishing his career with a 61.9 percent completion rate, 8.60 Yards Per Attempt, 5.56 percent touchdown rate, and 2.59 percent interception rate. Incumbent starter Tyrod Taylor vastly exceeded expectations this past season; among signal callers with at least 100 drop backs, he ranked 10th in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back. He also ranked third among signal callers in Rushing NEP.
