Chicago's Darnell Mooney up to 182 pounds heading into training camp
Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney has reportedly bulked up to 183 pounds this offseason after playing in the low 170's in 2021.
Mooney's primary knock as a prospect coming out of Tulane was his diminutive size, and the third-year receiver has been apparently been hitting the gym this offseason to address that. Despite the Bears' struggles last season, Mooney managed to outshine teammate Allen Robinson and establish himself as a reliable target in the passing game. The Bears did little to bolster their receiver room after Robinson's departure in the offseason, putting Mooney in position to lead the team in targets again in 2022.
Mooney thrived regardless of who the Bears rolled out at quarterback last season, but his ability down the field (he ran a 4.39 at the NFL Combine) meshes well with the team's 2022 starting quarterback Justin Fields, whose 9.8 intended air yards per throw ranked second-most in the league. Our models project him to finish as the WR31 in fantasy this season.
