Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) out for Week 5
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel announced Monday that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has already been ruled out for the team's Week 5 game against the New York Jets.
The circumstances of Tagovailoa's injury will certainly have ripple effects throughout the league going forward, and especially with how the league and teams handle head injuries. The young quarterback fortunately appears to be healthy after his scary head injury on Thursday Night Football, but will undoubtedly need more time to recover before he can contemplate a return. Teddy Bridgewater will start at quarterback with Tagovailoa sidelined, and rookie Skylar Thompson will be the backup.
Bridgewater will get to play against a struggling Jets defense in Week 5, one that gave up multiple touchdowns to the Kenny Pickett-led Pittsburgh Steelers in under a half of play. Bridgewater performed admirably in relief of Tagovailoa on Thursday, completing 14 of 23 attempts for 193 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.
