"I prepare all the time like I’m the only back on the team, understanding that I’m not," Carter said Monday. Carter is expected to become the Jets' primary running back after teammate Breece Hall suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 7. Carter had an underrated rookie season despite playing on a struggling Jets offense, but saw his opportunities dwindle after Hall entered the picture this season. He'll have a chance now to pick up where he left off a season ago as the team's top back.

Carter logged all but 2 of the Jets' running back touches after Hall suffered his injury, carrying the ball 13 times for 29 yards, and catching both of his targets for 45 receiving yards. He should project for a similar share of the work in the team's Week 8 game against the New England Patriots, and should be one of the top waiver wire pickups in season-long leagues wherever he is available.
