David Irving to start at defensive end early for Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving will serve as one of the Cowboys' Week 1 starters at defensive end, ESPN's Todd Archer expects.
The Cowboys are thin at that position with DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory both facing suspensions. Archer expects Irving to start on the left side opposite Benson Mayowa, who is recovering from offseason knee surgery but should be ready by Week 1. Ryan Russell could also work his way into the mix with a strong showing at training camp. Rushing the passer won't be one of the Cowboys' strengths in 2016.
The Cowboys ranked 19th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play last season. It doesn't seem like they will improve any time soon.
