Trent Murphy

Washington's Trent Murphy moved back to outside linebacker

Washington has moved defensive end Trent Murphy back to outside linebacker.

What It Means:

The transition was necessitated by Junior Galette's season-ending ACL injury shaking up the Redskins' front seven. The team needs more depth at rush linebacker, but head coach Jay Gruden says Murphy will still see snaps up front. Murphy hasn't developed as a pass rusher, and had packed on over 20 pounds as he prepared for his move to end. The rapid weight gain and loss, and lack of opportunity to hone his technique at one position may ultimately stunt his NFL development.

If he can take a step forward this year, our algorithms project Murphy for 33.97 tackles and 7.02 sacks in 2016.
