Steelers place Bud Dupree (groin) on injured reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed outside linebacker Bud Dupree (groin) on injured reserve.

What It Means:

Dupree needs "surgery to fix a core muscle tear." A 2015 first-rounder, Dupree missed most of camp with a groin injury. The fact the Steelers waited until after final cuts to make the transaction suggests they expect him back at some point this season. He is first eligible to return Week 9.

Dupree earned four sacks in his first eight games last year, but failed to hit the quarterback in his next 10, including the Steelers' playoff games. The Steelers' defense -- for all of their reported troubles -- still ranked 11th in the league in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points last season.
