Buccaneers' Jacquies Smith tears ACL, season is over
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Jacquies Smith has been placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.
Smith logged just one snap against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 before going down with the injury. Despite not being a big name, it's a significant loss for the Buccaneers after Smith finished second on the team in sacks each of the past two seasons, getting to the quarterback 13.5 times over that span. Defensive ends Robert Ayers, William Gholston and Noah Spence will work together to fill the void.
The Buccaneers sacked Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan three times on Sunday. He accumulated 12.15 Net Expected Points against the Tampa Bay defense in Week 1.
