Panthers cut Bene Benwikere following historic Week 5 roasting
The Carolina Panthers waived cornerback Bene Benwikere.
Per Pro Football Focus, Benwikere was responsible for 228 of the 300 yards that Julio Jones hung on the Panthers during their Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He allowed eight of Jones' 12 catches, as well as a touchdown. Despite that total failure of a performance, it's surprising to see the Panthers completely ax Benwikere after a solid start to the season, in addition to strong 2014 and 2015 campaigns. The 25-year-old corner won't be on the streets for long.
The Panthers currently rank 14th in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points per play. Benwikere has eight tackles, four deflected passes and an interception through four starts this season.
