Ravens may release Dennis Pitta
The Baltimore Ravens "may balk" at paying tight end Dennis Pitta's $5.5 million salary, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Turning 32 in June, Pitta's 86 receptions led all NFL tight ends last year, but he averaged an anemic 6.02 yards per target and didn't have a positive impact on offense beyond catching short passes and immediately falling down. Baltimore has younger tight ends with more potential in Maxx Williams and Darren Willer, and could use the salary cap relief they'd get from cutting Pitta.
43 tight ends saw at least 30 targets in 2016, and Pitta's 0.37 Reception Net Expected Points per target were fifth-least among them. The NFL average in this metric was 0.62 last year.
