Chargers franchise tag Melvin Ingram
The San Diego Chargers assigned the non-exclusive franchise tag to linebacker Melvin Ingram.
The non-exclusive tag means the Chargers are entitled to two-first round picks if Ingram signs with another team and they decide not to match the offer. He was second on the team with eight sacks last season and forms a dynamic defensive duo with Joey Bosa, so expect San Diego's front office to make an effort over the next week to lock Ingram up with a long-term deal.
San Diego finished last season ranked 12th in schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
