Kiko Alonso receives $18.5 million guaranteed in new deal with Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins signed linebacker Kiko Alonso to a four-year, $28.8 million contract that reportedly includes $18.5 million guaranteed.
It's not clear why the Dolphins made Alonso a priority signing this offseason, but kudos for achieving their goals. He continued to battle injuries last year, but did play in 15 games, compared to 11 total in the previous two seasons combined. There's been discussion about the Dolphins moving Alonso to the weak-side in 2017. His 27th birthday is in August.
In 2016, the Dolphins' defense ranked 18th in opponent-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play. Alonso led the team with 115 tackles in 15 games.
