Saints hosting open competition for defensive end opposite Cameron Jordan
The New Orleans Saints are planning to have an open competition at defensive end opposite Cameron Jordan.
"We're trying to find somebody that can hold down that other side opposite Cam," said defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. "We've got a lot of good candidates, and we'll let the competition play out." Alex Okafor, Obum Gwacham and third-round pick Trey Hendrickson are all in the conversation while Hau'oli Kikaha will also be a factor when he recovers from ACL surgery.
The Saints were third-worst in the NFL last season in terms of Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) allowed per play, but they fared better against the run, finishing 19th in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play.
