Roberto Aguayo

Buccaneers part ways with second-round bust Roberto Aguayo

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived 2016 second-round kicker Roberto Aguayo.

What It Means:

Aguayo will go down as one of the worst second-round picks in recent memory, especially since Tampa traded up to get him. Not ready for prime-time right from the start, Aguayo converted just 71 percent of his attempts and missing two extra point attempts as a rookie. His fate was likely sealed after he claimed to be "unlucky" to miss a point-after try and a field goal in the preseason opener. It was a smart decision by the Bucs to not condemn themselves to a sunken-cost pit. They will go with Nick Folk instead for the 2017 season.

Aguayo earned -12.71 Net Expected Points on his 31 tries. That was the worst total among the 30 kickers to attempt at least 20 field goals in 2016, and the third-worst among any kicker since 2000.
