Cardinals sign D.J. Foster off Patriots' practice squad

The Arizona Cardinals are signing running back D.J. Foster off the New England Patriots' practice squad.

What It Means:

It's an ominous sign that the Cardinals are preparing to place David Johnson on injured reserve. Foster is a pass-catching back who is likely just being added for depth. He's unlikely to factor much in the backfield at least initially. Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington are next up in the Arizona backfield behind Johnson.

In 2016, Foster made the Patriots as an undrafted rookie out of Arizona State. He made three appearances his rookie season, carrying the ball 7 times for 24 yards, while adding 1 catch for 2 yards.
