Vontae Davis (groin) released by Colts, reportedly undergoing season-ending surgery

The Indianapolis Colts released defensive back Vontae Davis.

What It Means:

This move comes less than 12 hours after the Indianapolis Star reported Davis would receive season-ending surgery to tend to his lingering groin problems. He was in the final year of his deal and will be 30 by the start of next season, so it's not much of a surprise after the Colts made it pretty clear they wouldn't be bringing back the two-time Pro Bowler. Per Pro Football Focus, Davis ranks just 84th out of 115 qualified cornerbacks this season.

Davis recorded 21 tackles (16 solo) in five games this season for a Colts secondary that enters Week 10 with the second-worst unit in the NFL in terms Adjusted Passing Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
