4 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 10/8/19

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can bring your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

New York Islanders

By no means are the New York Islanders an elite offensive team, but the matchup tonight versus the Edmonton Oilers is worth attacking.

The Oilers are truly an interesting team to look at since they can keep up with almost any team in terms of scoring, but their defense and goaltending bring plenty of question marks. This means they are generally playing in higher-scoring games, which is great for fantasy purposes. On the other hand, the Islanders are largely the same team from last season, which wasn't very good on offense, but they should be considered as viable tonight.

Through only two games this season, the Islanders have a 44.35 Corsi For, which is terrible. A rate that low means they are generating very little in terms of offensive pressure, but that could be on the rise, as the Oilers are allowing a 61.88 Corsi Against. A team that doesn't shoot the puck a lot versus a team who gives up a ton of shot attempts. We will likely end up somewhere in the middle, but that presents upside based on the fact the Isles' players are priced relative to their current offensive production. Their most expensive skater is winger Anders Lee, who is just $6,500 tonight. That is where we will start looking.

Lee is on the first forward line and the first power-play alongside center Mathew Barzal ($6,200), and winger Jordan Eberle ($6,100), who is on the first forward line, but the second power-play unit. That three-man stack is solid tonight for their prices, but if you want to try to be truly unique in tournaments, you could stack the first power-play, which has two defenders -- Ryan Pulock ($3,900) and Nick Leddy ($3,800) -- a stacking combination which should be very low owned.

Calgary Flames

It'd be silly not to mention a team like the Calgary Flames tonight, so let's take a look.

Calgary comes in with an implied team total sitting at 3.52, which is the second-highest on the slate, so they will be one of the chalkier options. They are facing off against the Los Angeles Kings, who end up as one of the worst teams in the league this season, and we will be attacking them all year. The Kings will likely have Jonathan Quick in net, who is a shell of his former self and simply put, the Kings don't have the talent in their lineup to compete with the Flames' offense.

We want to go straight to the top line for the flames with John Gaudreau ($7,800), center Sean Monahan ($7,300), and Elias Lindholm ($5,500). This should be one of the most popular three-man stacks on the night, rightfully so, but it's also expensive. It will get even more expensive if you add defender Mark Giordano ($6,700), as he is on the first power-play with them. Expensive? Yes. Multi-point and massive upside? Yes. If you are rolling out one lineup, or multiple lineups, I would try to get these players in there somehow.

Detroit Red Wings

Much like the Islanders mentioned above, the Detroit Red Wings aren't some offensive juggernaut, but we can try and capture their fantasy value tonight since they are in a good spot.

With four points in his first two games, Dylan Larkin ($7,500) is looking like the star center they are building the team around, and we should consider building a DFS lineup with him tonight. He is on the first forward line and the first power-play, alongside Tyler Bertuzzi ($5,500), and Anthony Mantha ($6,800), giving us 100% ice-time correlation. That is what we should always be looking for, as that is the way to maximize potential upside in tournaments.

They are up against the Anaheim Ducks, who come in with a 66.05 Corsi Against this season, which is the fourth-worst in the league, and similar to what we saw last season. They give up a massive amount of shot attempts, which should lock the Red Wings in for a solid floor of points, and the stacking correlation brings you the upside in tournaments.

Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers are up against the Carolina Hurricanes, where the over/under is set at 6.5, giving us plenty of offense to capture.

The Hurricanes love to push the pace and generate a ton of shot opportunities, which is great, as it opens up the game for fantasy points on both sides. Through two games, the Panthers aren't taking a ton of shots, but they will need to up the pace tonight in order to keep up with the potential scoring from the Hurricanes.

Last season, the Panthers' top line was among the best in the league and showed they can keep up in scoring with nearly anyone in the league. That top-line consists of Aleksander Barkov ($7,400), Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,100), and Evgeni Dadonov ($6,100), who are all on the first power-play together. You can add Keith Yandle ($5,400) as the defender on the first power-play, and dollar for dollar, this could end up being the best stack of the night.
