3 NHL Studs to Target on 11/4/19

Artemi Panarin gets a dream matchup tonight. Who else can we pay up for? What other studs should you look to pay up for tonight?

Spending up in any Daily Fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup. In NHL DFS, it’s different than paying up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest-priced players at his position a put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are paying up in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.

A new week kicks off with 4 games to sink our teeth into, with some big stars to consider. So who's worth paying up for tonight?

Patrice Bergeron, Center, Boston Bruins

FanDuel Price: $7,600

Patrice Bergeron keeps doing his thing for another season, dominating possession and putting up points. He has 14 points through 13 games this season, and is keeping the puck in the offensive zone with a 58% Corsi per Natural Stat Trick. He's also shooting a lot as well, with at least five shots in five of his last six games. His line with David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand has scored 12 goals this season, the second-most in the league for one line.

The Boston Bruins are hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins, and makes them a -165 favorite. It also gives the Bruins a 3.3 implied goal total. Bergeron has the best matchup of any of the centers priced above $7,000, making him the safer play and the preferred spend up option. His linemates David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand are great plays too but more expensive, so if you're not stacking in cash game lineups, playing Bergeron by himself gives you a decent discount on one of the game's best lines.

Artemi Panarin, Wing, New York Rangers

FanDuel Price: $7,400

Artemi Panarin and the New York Rangers haven't had the best start to the season, but they are beginning to round into form with two straight wins. Panarin himself has been solid for most of the season, with eleven points in ten games, including a point in four straight. On Monday, he gets to face the team in the basement of the entire league, the Ottawa Senators. He had a big game against them in the first meeting of the season, with a goal and assist and 23.7 FanDuel points. He also has multiple shots on goal in nine straight games, and that streak should continue against an Ottawa team that is second in shot attempts against per 60 minutes.

The Rangers are a -165 home favorite, and their implied goal total is the highest on the slate at 3.58. With Panarin averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game and being on the top line and power-play unit, if the Rangers are to hit that implied total he will likely be involved in at least one of the goals.

Roman Josi, Defenseman, Nashville Predators

FanDuel Price: $6,600

Roman Josi has been on a tear to start the season, leading the Nashville Predators in points with 14. He's been shooting the puck a ton as well, with 48 shots on goal in 14 games and he's second on the team in shot attempts per 60 minutes with 19.11. He gets a great matchup tonight against the Detroit Red Wings, who have allowed 3.79 goals per 60 minutes, the third worst rate in the league. The probable starting goalie for Detroit is Jimmy Howard, who has been terrible this season with a .898 save percentage.

Looking at numberFire's NHL Daily Fantasy Matchup Heat Map, we can also see that the Red Wings have the worst penalty kill of teams in action tonight, killing off just 70% of times shorthanded. Josi already has three power-play goals this season, and could easily add to that tonight. Nashville's implied goal total is the second-highest of the night at 3.4 -- and with Josi playing the most minutes on the team -- he could easily contribute to the Predators scoring some goals.
