Both the Capitals and Hurricanes are large home favorites tonight. Does that mean they are too risky to fade?

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

Washington Capitals

A small two-game slate has both home teams as significant favorites, which starts with the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals are holding a 3.37 implied goal total tonight, which shouldn't be a surprise since they are on a six-game winning streak where they have scored four goals or more in each game. This is the Capitals offense you've heard about over the past few seasons, scoring goals with ease and full of fantasy points.

Personally, I think the top power-play unit for the Capitals -- which is very expensive -- is the ultimate option in roster construction tonight. Due to their prices, they are tough to fit into a lineup on a 10-game slate with plenty of value, let alone on a two-game slate, but it can be done.

The first forward line has full correlation to the first power-play, which consists of Alex Ovechkin ($9,000), Nicklas Backstrom ($5,900), T.J. Oshie ($6,300), and elite defender John Carlson ($7,100), who has 28 points in only 18 games this season. This four-man stack takes up over 50% of your salary cap and you still need to roster a goalie. Tough, but it can be done.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes are the other home favorite and come in with an even higher implied total of 5.56. They are up against the Ottawa Senators, who they just played on Saturday night and lost, which was their fourth loss in a row.

In all honesty, the Hurricanes are a much better team than what they are showing in recent games, but in a response to this downturn, they have mixed up their forward lines a good amount. The changes bring us plenty of salary relief, which is needed if we are looking to get up to the Capitals top line.

In terms of matchup, going up against the Senators is a dream spot since they are the second-worst team in the league in Corsi Against (Shot Attempts Allowed). On the Hurricanes' side, they are the second-best in the league in Corsi For (Shot Attempts Created), giving us the two opposite ends of the spectrum.

We have new forward lines due to Carolina's losing streak, but it's still a legitimately great spot to attack, making things very clear on this two-game slate. That top forward line is now Jordan Staal ($4,800), Ryan Dzingel ($4,700), and Warren Foegele ($3,400), who have no power-play correlation. You miss out on the full ice-time together but gain the savings on a top forward line in a great matchup.
