4 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 12/5/19

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

Carolina Hurricanes

With nine games on tonight's slate, there are plenty of teams to target -- one of which is the Carolina Hurricanes.

They are at home and come in with a very solid 3.58 implied goal total -- the second-highest on the slate -- which should make them viable in all formats tonight. The Hurricanes not only take a ton of shots, but the shots they take are super valuable, since they lead the league in High-Danger Scoring Chances For per 60 minutes. That is awesome, since we know those shots often lead to goals, but what is even better is the fact they are up against the San Jose Sharks, who are allowing the third-most High-Danger Scoring Chances against.

To say this is a good matchup would be an understatement, and you should roster the Canes 10 times out of 10 in this spot, regardless of potential ownership.

The second forward line is also on the first power-play unit, and from a points-per-dollar basis, they could be one of the best lines on the entire slate. Sebastian Aho ($7,000), Teuvo Teravainen ($6,500), and Andrei Svechnikov ($6,300) are those three players, and while they have a modest nine points in their last five games, they're racked up 44 shots in that time.

Boston Bruins

If you are looking to spend all the way up tonight, look no further than the Boston Bruins' top line.

The Bruins have the third-highest implied goal total on the slate at 3.49 and bring some of the best upside you can find tonight or any night. Right now, Patrice Bergeron is still out with an injury, which means two things -- we get some savings with David Krejci ($6,700), who is now on the first forward line and the first power-play, and we still gain ice-time correlation with two of the best forwards in hockey. They are David Pastrnak ($9,300), who has the third-most points in the league this season, and Brad Marchand ($8,300), who is tied for the second-most points in the league.

Even with Bergeron out, the production from these players hasn't slowed down, as they have 18 real-world points and 34 shots over their past five games. Add Torey Krug ($5,600) as the defender on the power-play stack, and you are working with a stack that has shown to be profitable night in and night out this season.

Columbus Blue Jackets

If you want to buy into a narrative tonight, the Columbus Blue Jackets could be the team for you.

Columbus is at home to host the New York Rangers and their former teammate, Artemi Panarin. He was their young franchise player, who left in the offseason for the Big Apple. Regardless of the narrative, the Rangers have been a team to attack all season long, since they are in the bottom-five in Corsi Against, expected goals against, and the number of High-Danger Scoring Chances against.

I normally have plenty of gripes with how the Blue Jackets set up their forward lines and power-play units, but we actually have full correlation today. Boone Jenner ($4,200), Gustav Nyquist ($5,700), and Oliver Bjorkstrand ($5,200) are on the first forward line as well as the first power-play unit, and they are very moderately priced. They make a great complimentary stack alongside a more expensive one.

Buffalo Sabres

Here's a hot take: the Buffalo Sabres are in a great spot tonight, and I don't care what anyone says.

They are on the road to take on the Calgary Flames, who have been going through a lot recently -- playing horrible on the ice, firing their coach, and showing a ton of inconsistencies for a team that had more than 100 points last season. The Flames are around the league average for most defensive categories, so while there's nothing that makes them a team we have to attack, there's also nothing that says we have to avoid them.

On a nine-game slate, I don't think they will carry mich ownership, which at least makes them appealing from a tournament perspective. Their top-line center, Jack Eichel ($8,600), has nine points and 24 shots in his last five games and can power any stack. Victor Olofsson ($6,700) is being more productive than the other winger -- Sam Reinhart -- so I'd lean with him and then add value defender Henri Jokiharju ($3,500), who is now up on the first power-play unit.
