3 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 12/9/19

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche have won six straight games and are back at home in a great spot to continue scoring goals.

Colorado is sitting just two points behind the St. Louis Blues for the most in the Western Conference and are only getting better. In the last 10 days, they have seen Mikko Rantanen ($7,600) and Gabriel Landeskog ($7,200) return to the starting lineup after both being out since October. They have been missing two of their top three players and have still managed to stay as one of the best teams in the league. To say they've played well over the past month would be an understatement. They are back at full power, and their 3.30 implied goal total tonight is too low.

While Landeskog isn't on the first forward line with Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon ($9,000), they are all on the first power-play unit, which is the spot you want to be targeting tonight. This is a very expensive stack on a normal-sized slate, and now we have only four games, meaning we have limited value options across the board. However, they could be getting a bit of value on the first power-play if defender Cale Makar ($5,400) is unable to play. If he is out, we could see Samuel Girard ($3,700) get bumped up to the first power-play, offering a bit of savings.

Washington Capitals

Hey, guys, the Washington Capitals are very good and score goals, and you should roster them.

With a 3.52 implied goal total, the Capitals are atop tonight's slat, and that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. If you follow the NHL in any capacity, you know that the Capitals are on another level this season and will continue to make one of the best options in DFS until something drastically changes. After a four-game, nine-day road trip (mostly on the West Coast), they are back at home to host the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets -- losers of four-straight. The Capitals are a team I always like to have a bit of exposure to regardless of the size of the slate. They bring immense upside, and you can be left out of the money quickly if you don't have some of their players.

Being back at home means they have the second line change, which should put their top line in ideal matchups. Not that they need a further boost, but the Blue Jackets are without their top defender, Zach Werenski, making this even easier for Washington.

Speaking of the top line, you should look to spend up on Alex Ovechkin ($8,600), who is a walking -- err, skating -- hat-trick waiting to happen.

Nicklas Backstrom ($6,500) and Tom Wilson ($4,700) round out the first forward line, with the latter not on the first power-play unit. That is fine, since Wilson is cheaper and on the second power-play unit, along with Ovechkin. Yes, Ovechkin is double-shifting and on both power-play units.

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins are facing the Ottawa Senators, so you know what that means.

The time-honored tradition of stacking against the Senators will continue tonight, and it could be even better than some realize. The Bruins have an implied team total set at 3.37 tonight -- the third-highest on the slate -- but that should be on the rise given the injury news this morning. Top-line center Peter Bergeron ($8,000) hasn't played since November 23rd, but it was reported that he was taking morning rushes at practice and is set to return in a very soft matchup.

This will reunite the top forward line in the NHL, which hasn't lost a step with him gone. David Pastrnak ($8,700) leads the league in goals and is sitting at fifth overall in points. Brad Marchand ($8,100) is sitting at fourth overall in points, making this one of the best three-man stacks on the entire slate.

They are very expensive and will require a bit of finesse when it comes to roster construction, but they'll be well worth it knowing the multi-point upside they have.
