4 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 2/13/20
When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.
You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.
Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.
Tampa Bay Lightning
With 11 games on the slate, you can find options at every price tier, but you should look to spend up for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
With a slate-high 3.47 implied goal total, the Lightning are going to be popular tonight, and you certainly want some exposure to them. They find themselves at home to host the Edmonton Oilers in a game in which the over/under is sitting at 6.5 goals. It should be noted that Lightning are dealing with some injuries, which impacts their top units. Steven Stamkos ($8,400) has missed their past two games and is normally on the first forward line and first power-play unit. Nikita Kucherov ($8,200) left Tuesday's game, and his status for tonight is unclear.
This could make some DFS players cautious about rostering the Lightning tonight, but they still have plenty of offensive power to stack. Brayden Point ($7,400) would be the center on the first line alongside with Ondrej Palat ($4,700), and Tyler Johnson ($4,200) could be bumped up to the first line. Alex Killorn ($4,500) will almost certainly play a larger role tonight if Stamkos and Kucherov are both out, giving us another value option.
Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild are strong home favorites with an implied goal total at 3.19.
The Wild aren't known as an amazing offensive team, but you can look to them in certain spots, like tonight against the New York Rangers. The Wild are holding a 54.43 Corsi For (Shot Attempts Created) this season -- 19th in the league -- along with being 27th in Expected Goals For. They're not one of the better offensive teams since they don't create a ton of offensive pressure and don't have a ton of scoring options. As such, you should look to their first forward line today, and that's it. We can go here tonight due to the matchup versus the Rangers, who are sitting in the bottom three of the league for Corsi Against, Expected Goals Against, and the number of High-Danger-Scoring-Chances allowed per 60 minutes.
That top line is Zach Parise ($6,400), Eric Staal ($5,800), and Kevin Fiala ($5,300), who have teamed up for 16 points and 44 shots in their last five games. All three players are on the first power-play together, so you are getting full ice-time correlation at what is a reasonable price tag.
Arizona Coyotes
A 2.92 implied total doesn't seem amazing, but the Arizona Coyotes are worth rostering tonight.
The 'Yotes are in the thick of the playoff hunt and are looking at a very winnable game today against the Ottawa Senators. If you are just getting into some NHL DFS with the NBA heading to the All-Star Break, the Senators are like the Atlanta Hawks -- plenty of young players, can be fun to watch, but ultimately, they aren't a good team. The Senators allow way too many shot attempts, and many of those shot attempts come close to the net, the best area to score goals. When you see a matchup like this, you want to attack it, and that leads us to the Coyotes' top line.
Taylor Hall ($7,400), Christian Dvorak ($5,200), and Conor Garland ($4,700) comprise the first forward and are all on the first power-play unit together for Arizona. Jordan Oesterle ($3,500) is the defender on the first power-play unit and is very cheap tonight, allowing this stack to be used alongside a much more expensive one.
New Jersey Devils
Oh, what a matchup we have tonight with the Detroit Red Wings on the road to take on the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils are the third-worst team in the Eastern Conference while the Red Wings are dead last. This game pits two teams who are truly bad, but we could see some goals here on both sides. Each team is horrible on defense, so what stops this game from being 5-4? Both teams are allowing more than 3.5 goals per game and can be found near the bottom of the league in most -- if not all -- defensive categories.
The Devils are holding a modest 3.09 implied goal total, but with their matchup and cheaper prices, you can look to them in tournaments tonight. Jack Hughes ($4,300), Kyle Palmieri ($6,600), Blake Coleman ($4,600), and Damon Severson ($4,400) are all very affordable and are on the first power-play together. They come in with a surprising 17 points and 52 shots over their past five games.
