2 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 8/13/20

The Golden Knights have the highest implied goal total on the slate, but does that make them the best stacking option today?

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Let's jump in and look at some stacks to target for goals and plenty of fantasy points.

Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights looked amazing in Game 1 and will roll into Game 2 with their slate-high 3.72 implied goal total.

After posting four goals in Game 1 against the Chicago Blackhawks, the top-seeded Golden Knights are in an equally strong spot to continue producing fantasy points today. The Blackhawks were among the worst defensive teams in the regular season, and that is shown by the fact they held a 2.64 Expected Goals Against per 60 minutes in 5 v 5 situations, which was dead last in the league. They have been one of the worst defenses, and you shouldn't stop stacking against them in the playoffs.

That means you want to look towards the Golden Knights' top power-play unit for plenty of upside in fantasy. Mark Stone ($7,200), Max Pacioretty ($7,400), Jon Marchessault ($7,000), and Paul Stastny ($4,400) are the four forwards on the power-play unit. The first two skaters are on the first forward line, while the second two are on the second forward line. Getting exposure to both forward lines and the top power-play unit is not something you should be passing on.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars are coming off a tough loss in Game 1 and are in a spot where they need to get the offense going.

With a 2.75 implied goal total, the Stars are in the middle of the pack for today's four-game slate and shouldn't be as popular in tournaments given some of the other offensive options available. It should also help that Dallas isn't known as a "strong" offensive team, as they scored the fourth-fewest goals during the regular season. However, this matchup versus the Calgary Flames is a good one to attack since Calgary finished with the ninth-worst (57.4) Corsi Against (Shot Attempts Allowed per 60 mins) in 5 v 5 situations. The Flames allow plenty of shots, and that should give Dallas an opening to attack.

The top power-play unit is really the only spot worth stacking on Dallas since their lineup lacks offense. Tyler Seguin ($7,100), Jamie Benn ($6,600), Alexander Radulov ($4,900), and Joe Pavelski ($5,300) are the four forwards on the first power-play you should look to stack. They aren't super expensive, which will allow you to pay for another stack in the same lineup.
