NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 5/5/21

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Jordan Binnington ($7,300): The St. Louis Blues have plenty to play for as they are still trying to clinch a playoff berth, so we want to look to them for some safety tonight. That safety comes from Binnington in net, who is a -270 home favorite against the Anaheim Ducks. This season, the Ducks are only scoring 2.13 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-lowest in the league. They simply aren't a good offensive team by any measure, and it should put Binnington in a spot to come away with an easy and much-needed win.

High-Priced Skaters

Mikko Rantanen ($8,500): Since returning to the lineup for the Colorado Avalanche, Rantanen has posted 7 NHL points and 13 shots on goal in three games. That's good for 24 FanDuel points or more in each game, and he's absolutely a player you should be spending up to get in your lineups. He will be up against the San Jose Sharks, who are in the bottom five of the league in both Corsi Against (57.56) (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) and goals allowed (2.91) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. With his role on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, Rantanen should be a very popular option tonight.

Tyler Toffoli ($6,900): When the Ottawa Senators are on the slate, you simply roster players against them -- it's that simple. The Senators continue to be one of the worst teams in the league and allow 2.94 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league. The Montreal Canadiens are another team that is fighting for their playoff life right now, and since this is a very winnable matchup, they should be sticking with their best players such as Toffoli.

He comes in with 9 NHL points and 32 shots on goal in his last 10 games, making him a super consistent option for all formats tonight. You can also look to stack him with his linemates, Nick Suzuki and Joel Armia, as they are fully correlated onto the second power-play unit.

Value Skaters

Erik Haula ($3,700): Haula has a surprising 7 NHL points, 25 shots on goal, and 6 blocked shots in his last 10 games. I say this is surprising because he is still under $4,000 and producing very solid fantasy numbers. His role on the third forward line isn't amazing, but he does see time on the second power-play unit, giving him some upside. The Nashville Predators are also trying to clinch a playoff spot and are in a very winnable matchup versus the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, so there is no reason you shouldn't trust them.
