Ducks sign Antoine Vermette to two-year deal

The Anaheim Ducks have signed center Antoine Vermette to a two-year, $3.5 million contract.

What It Means:

Vermette, whose contract was recently bought out by the Arizona Coyotes, will carry a cap hit of $1.75 million with the Ducks. It was reported that he had five offers from NHL clubs before choosing to sign with the Ducks. Vermette, 34 years-old, tallied 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists) in 76 games with Arizona last season. Since entering the NHL in 2003-04, Vermette owns the second-best faceoff percentage (55.8 percent) among active skaters. He's expected to play on the third line with Anaheim.

Vermette was poor at driving possession last season, posting a 47.1 Corsi For Percentage, his lowest since the 2008-2009 campaign. Meanwhile, his 0.1 Relative Corsi For Percentage was an improvement on his -0.9 career-average, although still not a good mark.
