Matt Cullen

Penguins re-sign veteran Matt Cullen

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed center Matt Cullen to a one-year, $1 million deal.

What It Means:

The 39 year-old Cullen will return for his 20th season in the NHL, after being part of a Pittsburgh team that won the Stanley Cup last season. Cullen tallied 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) and didn't miss a game last season (82 games). Cullen was also impressive on the draw, winning 55.7 percent of his faceoffs, and led the Penguins with six shorthanded points. Once the playoffs rolled around, he recorded six points (four goals, two assists) in 24 contests.

Cullen was poor at driving possession, however, posting a Corsi For Percentage of just 48.6 and a Relative Corsi For Percentage of -5.4, which was a career-worst.
