Ryan Callahan (hip) sidelined indefinitely for Lightning

Tampa Bay Lightning winger Ryan Callahan had a follow-up procedure on his ailing hip Tuesday and he is out indefinitely.

What It Means:

Callahan hasn't played since January 7 and he's been limited to only 18 games this season, recording just two goals and a pair of assists. Offseason hip surgery cost him the first eight contests of the year and it has continued to plague the 31-year-old veteran throughout the campaign. It's possible that the Lightning eventually opt to shut down Callahan for the remainder of the season.

Callahan's 45.8 Corsi For Percentage this season is a career-low and his -4.5 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength is the worst since his rookie year. The Lightning rank 16th in numberFire's NHL Team Power Rankings and currently have a 14.5 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to our models.
