Ron Hainsey headed to Pittsburgh after deal with Hurricanes

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Ron Hainsey from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2017 second-round selection and Danny Kristo.

What It Means:

Hainsey provides a necessary boost for a Penguins defense that is without Justin Schultz (concussion), Trevor Daley (knee) and Olli Maatta (hand). The 35-year-old veteran is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Hainsey has four goals and 14 points in 56 games this season while recording a 50.4 Corsi For Percentage and -2.4 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength -- both of which are slightly above his career-averages.
