FanDuel Premier League Trends to Know for Matchweeks 23 and 24

The next Premier League main slate hits FanDuel at 10:00 a.m. EST on Saturday with seven games. Many teams on the Saturday slate will have a quick turn around as FanDuel will likely feature the six games on Tuesday, January 21 on another main slate. There are 10 teams on both slates and they will be the focus of this combined post.

The Tuesday main slate should look like this.

Let's look at the teams and players that are rising and falling this week.

Hot

Team: Manchester City

Although City still have a 14-point deficit to Liverpool, they have moved back into second place after three straight wins. They have scored at least two goals in each of the last five matches and just smacked Aston Villa 6-1 behind a Sergio Aguero ($23) hat trick. Kevin De Bruyne ($22) has five assists in his past five games. Gabriel Jesus ($21) has scored 99.9 FanDuel points in the past two games.

Soccer odd is giving Manchester City implied win odds of at least a 74% in each of their next two matches. They have eight players who are averaging at least 15 FanDuel points per game. City are running on all cylinders again, and opponents will have trouble slowing them down.

Honorable mention to Watford, even though they are only on one slate. They have won four of the last five, with three ending in clean sheets, to get out of the bottom three.

Player: Jack Grealish, Aston Villa ($17)

Excluding the match against Manchester City, Grealish has been the catalyst for Villa. Over the last seven matches, which includes the grueling holiday schedule, Grealish has FanDuel tallies of 51.0, 19.0, 32.9, and 31.6 points. He has created 20 chances in that time. Even though the match against City was brutal for Villa, Grealish drew a season-high eight fouls and has drawn 36 fouls in the last seven contests. Grealish was not as successful last time out against Watford, but he had a goal and an assist against Brighton in their first matchup this season. Brighton have lost three of their last five. These two matches are close to must-win relegation battles for Aston Villa, and Grealish should be a key factor in both.

Cold

Team: Bournemouth

Bournemouth have not scored a goal in three games and sit in next-to-last place in the league table. They have been outscored 9-0 over the last three and now have a -15 goal differential, which is tied for second worst in the league. They have one win, which came against Chelsea, in their last 11 games. Defender Diego Rico ($13) is the only player averaging more than 16 FanDuel points for Bournemouth, but he has two yellow cards in the last four weeks, with his high points total in that span being only a touch more than 14 points. Dominic Solanke ($9) has yet to score a league goal this season. Bournemouth are slight underdogs in both games over the next week. Their next three matches are against other teams fighting to stay out of relegation, so bad results may cement their season.

Player: Oliver Norwood, Sheffield United ($13)

Norwood is on a small decline over the past two matches. He has made the score sheet just once this season, but standing over corners gives him a decent floor. After two of his best games of the season, Norwood has scored fewer than 13 points in each of the past two matches. Prior to two good fantasy outputs against Manchester City and Watford, Norwood had games of 6.9, 9.9, 2.6, and 7.6 FanDuel points. Norwood failed to record a clearance last game, which was the first time that's happened in four matches, and he ended with just two defensive actions.

Sheffield United have two very tough matches coming up, with one on the road at Arsenal and the other against a surging Manchester City. They are underdogs in both matches, and it may be hard for them to gain much possession in either contest. That limits the chance of corners, and it lowers Norwood's floor. The tough stretch for Norwood looks likely to continue.
