Golden Tate Will Still Be Great

I mentioned in last week's bold prediction about Amari Cooper that wide receivers on new teams tend to struggle. I don't think that's going to be the case for Golden Tate.

Tate should provide an immediate upgrade over the struggling Nelson Agholor. Agholor has lined up in the slot on over 50% of his snaps per PlayerProfiler.com, while Tate has run almost 70% of his routes from that position in 2018. If you take a look at Carson Wentz's QB Grid on the NFL's Next Gen Stats website, you'll notice that one of the few areas where he hasn't totally excelled this year has been in the middle of the field between 0-10 yards from the line of scrimmage. His passer rating in that area of the field has dropped a full 20 points since last year.

That's exactly where Tate thrives -- his average depth of target is 6.5 yards. And this week he'll have every opportunity to thrive against a Dallas Cowboys defense that, according to JJ Zachariason's Week 9 Report, has been particularly weak against passes to the middle of the field and that just lost a vital piece of its defense in Sean Lee.

The best example of someone exploiting the Cowboys defense in the middle of the field? None other than Tate himself. Back in Week 4 he went ballistic against the Cowboys, catching 8 of 8 targets for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns. He actually did most of his damage in that game when catching passes out down the right sideline, but lined up in the slot on almost all of those routes.

Tate brings a unique skill set to the Eagles and is already well-versed in wrecking the Cowboys. He's going to pop off for over 100 receiving yards in his Eagles debut.
