Phillies ink David Hernandez to one-year deal
The Philadelphia Phillies signed relief pitcher David Hernandez to a one-year contract.
No word yet on the exact terms, but it's a guaranteed major league deal. He was reliable in the Arizona Diamondbacks' bullpen last year and showed good velocity in his first year back from Tommy John surgery. There's some nice upside here for Philadelphia.
Hernandez had a 4.28 ERA and 4.74 FIP in 40 appearances with the Diamondbacks this past season. He allowed six home runs in just 33 2/3 innings, but he fanned 8.82 hitters per nine innings while walking 2.94 per nine innings.
