Justin Verlander to start for Astros in ALDS Game 1
Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander will start Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the winner of Wednesday's American League Wild Card Game between the Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays, per manager A.J. Hinch.
What It Means:
Verlander will start Game 1 with Gerrit Cole scheduled to start Game 2 and Zack Greinke getting the nod for Game 3. The three-time Cy Young Award winner went 21-6 in 34 starts in the regular season.
Verlander recorded a 2.58 ERA and 0.803 WHIP with 300 strikeouts and 42 walks over 223 innings.
