Charlie Blackmon, two Rockies reportedly test positive for COVID-19
Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon tested positive for COVID-19 following workouts at Coors Field, per MLB sources of The Denver Post.
Blackmon is the first MLB player known to have tested positive. Rockies' minor-league reliever Phillip Diehl and pitching prospect Ryan Castellani also tested positive. Only one of the three players was showing symptoms, though it's not clear which one. Everyone else working out at Coors Field was tested and all of those results came back negative. The season is slated to start July 23 and 24, so Blackmon has a month to recover and get ready for the 60-game restart. Diehl and Castellani are unlikely to make the Opening Day roster. Blackmon turns 34 on July 1, the day players are set to begin reporting for spring training 2.0.
Blackmon slashed .314/.364/.576 with 32 home runs, 42 doubles, 7 triples, 86 RBI, and 112 runs scored last season. He averaged 13.0 FanDuel points per game, 13th-best among all hitters. Blackmon has hit between 29 and 37 home runs each of the past four years. He has a .312 three-year batting average and is a career .304 hitter over nine seasons.
